Tips to Save Money Running Your Micro Small Business Australia

Ideas to reduce expenses for your Micro Small Business Australia:

Join a local Networking Group and mingle with other Micro Small Business Owners. Often you will meet other Business Owners with skills that you can utilize and if they are in need of your services you can trade services with no money changing hands.

Don’t buy bigger than you need, for example, software programs that help us accomplish the necessary tasks are usually offered in various sizes. You might be planning on having a hundred employees next year but you don’t need software to manage a hundred employees this year. You can always upgrade when the time comes. Today you need to save the bucks and go with only what you need today.

Don’t spend unnecessary advertising dollars. So many times new Micro Business Owners will start spending on Advertising without doing enough research. PPC Ads are a great example. We all want to get our business on the first page of Google, but I know many business owners who have run up massive bills with Google, without the reward of gaining new customers.

Take full advantage of free advertising to build your business and your credibility. There are free ways to advertise that are almost as effective as PPC advertising and paid-for advertising. Some of these free advertising methods are:

* Write E-books and articles and submit them to E-book repositories and article banks for others to use free of charge. (These articles and E-books are accompanied by your resource box which includes your name and your website address.)

* The Networking Group is really useful to gain referrals for new business. You will have to be prepared to make a small presentation about your Micro Business.

* Use Word of Mouth to Advertise: Write a list of everyone you know and let them know you are now “in business”. It is amazing where this can lead.

* Post to blogs and forums that are related to the products and services that you sell. You post above a signature that includes your name and your website address.

* Build a long and impressive opt-in list. Email advertising is free but you need the recipient’s permission to send advertising emails.

Sign up with a good flat-rate long distance telephone service, VOIP is great. A flat-rate long distance telephone service can save you a lot of money over time.

Receive Faxes to your Laptop or PC rather than purchasing a fax machine, and having the associated telephone line installed.

Use a scanner to go paperless and file all your business paperwork on your hard drive instead of setting up a Hard Copy filing system.

Make sure you are on the most competitive plans for your mobile and internet services. Often speaking to a member of Gen Y can give you some really great tips in this area.

Make use of Trial offers to ensure products you are buying are really what you need. For example, MYOB accounting software offers a free 90 day trial to test before purchase.

If you can implement some of the above you will succeed in reducing your business expenses and thereby boost your businesses bottom line.

Three Steps to Running a Successful Small Business

Edit Article |

]]>

Many people have decided to run a small business.  Maybe it’s because they lost their job and are having a hard time finding another one.  Maybe they have an illness in their family, and they are forced to stay at home to take care of a sick loved one.  Whatever the case, more and more people are turning to entrepreneurship as a means to survive.  Here are some tips to run a successful business.

1.    Make sure you pick something that you’re passionate about.  You’re going to be spending at least ten hours a day running this business.  Be sure you pick something that you could talk about until the cows come home.  Your business will be dead in the water if you pick something just because it can make you a lot of money.

2.    Use a set of advisors.  You are never going to know everything there is to know about running a business.  It does not matter if you have a degree or have ten years of experience in the business world.  Someone out there knows more about running a business than you do.

It’s important that you have a set of advisors that you can consult whenever you are having a problem with your small business.  You may have to pay these advisors money, or you may be able to get someone to give you advice in return for taking them out to lunch.  However you go about finding advisors, just be sure to find some good advisors to help you grow your small business.

3.    Never stop marketing your business.  This should be obvious, but one thing that people do when times get hard is to cut back on advertising and marketing their small business.  Never ever do that.  Instead you should do just the opposite.

When you are having a hard time attracting customers you should increase your marketing efforts.  If you stop marketing your small business, you’re making it so that no one hears about your business.  If no one hears about your small business, you’ll certainly never get any customers.

Running a small business can be a profitable venture.  It can also be very stressful.  If you follow the tips I mentioned above, you should be well on your way to running a successful small business.

There is no shortage of tips and techniques about how to open and manage a business of your own. Be cautious about following much of the advice from self appointed business gurus, many of whom have never owned or managed any kind of small, independent business themselves.

Most can talk the talk but few have ever actually walked the walk.

Frankly, going it alone is not for everyone. The reality is the life of an entrepreneur can be unkind, tough and too often, short.

When you open your own business you will need to slay all manner of dragons that constantly rise up to crush rookie business owners. Making it on Main Street requires more than strong mojo.

Motivation is important but the real key to making it on your own is to clearly define (on paper!) what is (or will be) truly unique about your business and exactly who your target market is, where they hang out and how you can cost effectively reach them.

Far too often, people plunge into business based upon what they know and what they want to do. People who love to cook open restaurants. Above average mechanics launch vehicle repair shops. Number crunchers start accounting businesses. This is the Ready-FIRE-Aim approach.

Once the euphoria of the launch is over, reality sets in – Hey, this is one heckuva lot of work for not so much money. That is when the new business owner realizes that perhaps they missed something in all of the blood, sweat and tears invested in starting their enterprise.

The survival statistics for new business start-ups remain grim in spite of the hard work and preparation done beforehand: detailed business plans; pro forma sales and expense projections; business formation documents; location and signage issues; leasehold improvements; permits and licenses; attending entrepreneur classes; hiring staff . . . as a PARTIAL list!

The cycle is all too familiar. A new business opens. Sales soar then taper off. The fledgling business advertises to bolster sales. Ads fall flat. The pruning shear comes out: trim overhead, cut services and possibly prices. Bring expenses in line with real revenue rather than initial projections. Work harder. The American Dream is at stake here.

Some hang in. Many do not.

Here is a hard cold fact regarding starting, managing and sustaining any small business: get in and stay in the MARKETING GAME from day one.

Write this simple description down: Small business marketing is about identifying people with specific needs and challenges and getting these people to notice you, like you, trust you and buy from you. That is the solitary secret to small biz success.

Silver bullet theories come from many directions. There are no magic potions for small business success. The best way to succeed is to sop up and act out the above definition of small business marketing. Ready, AIM, fire.

Resist handing off your marketing strategy to an in-law or acquaintance that used to do some public relations for a Fortune 500 company or an employee who once upon a time sold ads for The Daily Bugle in Toledo. Before you do that or in the event you have already made that kind of mistake, stop now.

Identify exactly what is unique about your company (as opposed to your competitors) and precisely who your specific target market is or will be. Sound simple? It is not.

How do I know?

90 per cent of small business owners and managers have not, cannot or will not get their arms around the basic marketing concept stated above. I am not sure why this is so. What I do know is that doing it right . . . from the start . . . beats doing it over later on.

Online Small Business Owners- Beware Of Your #1 Enemy

Running an online small business has multiple challenges that can make it sressful and confusing. Online business owners, in an attempt to keep pace with the competition, are on constant alert for new strategies and tactics. Very quickly, because of the abundance of information Online, these business owners become victims of information overload.

The brain acts as a “filtering” mechanism when it comes to sorting out, and storing information. Much information is stored in the conscious mind, where it is readily accessible.

When the quantity and flow of information is manageable, the brain filters out the information that is used for a specific purpose.

However, when the quantity and variety of information is unmanageable, a “dis-connect” occurs within the brain.

We recognize this “dis-connect” as the symptoms of information overload. One such symptom is typically referred to as “overwhelm”.

As the name suggests, individuals tend to feel “overwhelmed” when bombarded with too much information. Typically, they feel pulled in many different directions, and are confronted with too many choices.

The end result is they “freeze up” with indecision. This causes their productivity to come virtually to a standstill.

Information overload is a byproduct of the so-called “information age”. The Internet makes the availability and transfer of information so abundant and efficient, that we tend to take in too much.

The key is to only gather information on one task at a time. Avoid the temptation to venture off on “tangents” before a task is completed.

A good practice is to list the resources you are going to need for any given project. By listing resources, you are less likely to venture off and gather non relevant information.
